ABOUT THE CONTENTS

The Golden Tool Kit

An Instructional Guide to Golden Gate Movements program and how to implement it into your school. This manual will provide the resources for running the Club or Initiative. Further resources are available at our website: goldengatemovement.org under your member login. These materials are designed to promote the theme, challenges, and activities for the school year. Included are discussions that instruct students in the various attitudes, perspectives, soft skills, and pro-social behaviors needed to function effectively in school and in their personal social interactions. These materials can also be used to teach a pro-social unit in a classroom.

Pledge Banner

Students and staff who join the Club or Initiative sign a pledge when they join. The Pledge is a commitment to themselves, not to the club or its leadership. It is a personal honor code to live by. Once signed, the student receives his or her own copy of the Pledge to review and consider. A 4’x6’ vinyl banner of the Pledge will be provided in your Golden Package for display in your school. It is recommended that schools allow students to sign this banner. Personal copies of the Pledge may be copied and dispersed from the Tool Kit Manual.
Golden Gate Club or Initiative Banner – can be used for club rush or initiative sign ups. Motivational Golden Gate Banners are important to promote pro-social behaviors and environments.

STAY KIND Shirts

Motivational shirts that inspire students to represent the club or initiative. The wearer of this shirt ensures other students that they are approachable, kind and will accept other and be a genuine friend.

Golden Packet

The Golden Packet consists of parental permission forms, policies & procedures, “About” letter, and Pledge (for participation and signup purposes). The Golden Packet is available in the Implementation Guide.

Golden Gate has done wonders with improving the school climate in our middle school. Students have become more outwardly focused and feel integrally a part of the united school effort to promote positive change within our school and the community. I feel like the amount of bullying has decreased and been replaced with constructive efforts of service. The students have become more likely to communicate concerns with trusted school faculty members so that appropriate interventions can be taken.”

Layne Koyle, School Counselor

“Random people wanted to become my friend because I had the “Stay Kind” logo on my shirt. I felt important for the first time in my life. I could say to myself that I had friends, I am worth it, I am known, and people do care about me and it’s not because they know my family; they care about me because of me. Day 1 of High School: 2 friends Day 450: 36. This is my experience with the Golden Gate Club and I’m proud to be a part of it!”

Unknown, Student at Bingham High School

“The kickoff assembly was motivational and we had a big response from the student body. We had more than 1/3 of the students take the pledge.”

Patrick Orr, Counselor at Sunset Ridge Middle School

The Golden Gate Club has helped me look outside myself and reach out to other people. I’ve made true, long lasting friends through this club and through my efforts of reaching out. This club has also made me feel loved and important. Nothing has brought me more happiness than serving and reaching out to others at school. Golden Gate is not only a club to help you feel included, but also a club where you can make a difference with others.”

Kambry, Student at Bingham High School

“I always felt I wasn’t worth anything. I felt as if I had made the wrong decision to stay alive. One day during lunch when all of the different clubs were there getting new members I signed up for the Golden Gate Club just to make sure that no one would have to feel the same way that I did. This club has been the real thing that has kept me from being where I was. I’m now a junior, I’m now happy, and I’m a living person who has been touched by what this club is. A family. A friend. A club of good people who really want to make a change and help with people.”
